Lunch and a Bobcat!

I was enjoying a late lunch today with my friends Laurie and Brenda, when Brenda said, "Barb, be very quiet and look at what is coming out of your woods."  I looked around the table out window and there he was, a very good size bobcat.  He walked ever so slowly around my house to the front yard and crossed over the driveway, then we lost site of him.  He was walking very strangely, almost as if he had been hit or clipped by a car.  We did call the police animal control, because the bobcat was injured, and the officer was shocked at his size in the picture.  He even wanted his supervisor to see it!  It never amazes me the wildlife I have around here:  black bear, bobcat, deer, fox, at times coyote and turkeys.  We have even had a flock of turkey vultures on our house.....that creeped me out!  (You can double-click on any of the pictures to enlarge them)

Anyway, he is pretty good size!  I have been weeding in my garden, I am going to have to keep an eye out a little better than I do...
Now that I had the black bear I had to make a quilt, will I have to do a bobcat now?
I just have to show the pictures of the turkey vultures...we never could figure out why they came; nothing was dead in the area that we knew about.....anyway:

Don't you just think they are the creepiest bird to look at--and we came home to them on our roof and in our trees; there were five of them!
Well, I really need to get some sewing done, have had too many other things going on today!  Until later or tomorrow, happy quilting!

  6. How cool to see a Bobcat!! I saw one once when we were traveling in our Motorhome. I told my hubby to pull over so I could take a photo, but I didn't get one quick enough. He walked very slowly also.

Keep an eye open - for yourself and your animals.
Somehow my seagulls don't seem so bad when I see what you got on your roof :)

  11. Wow! that is one big bob cat, I have all the same critters in my yard too. We had a huge black bear that kept revisiting us for a while, we have the deer, coyote, we had a family of 5 foxes, and a moose a couple of years ago. We have fisher cats, though I have not seen them we have heard them (what a screach they make). I have not had a bob cat yet, if I do I hope it is not that big, makes me glad my kitties are indoor kitties.

  13. I would be a little nervous with a bob cat like that in the area!! I hope they can find him and check out his injuries.
If he is in pain he will be more dangerous!

How lucky you were able to get pics (safely)

  14. WOW! Did they ever get the bobcat? I feel bad for it wandering around hurt. I can't STAND seeing vultures--they're so ugly (AND creepy)! YUCK!

  15. Looks like a VERY healthy one. I'm sure you are right, was clipped by a car and probably has a bad bruise or a break, but will be fine I'm sure. They are VERY tough! We have them here on the island, they were introduced by the park in the 70's to thin out the sickly deer population. They are not NEARLY this fine though! What a beauty!!! Probably looking for a place to bed down and heal. Great work on the photos!
Yes, those buzzards are ugly. They are a common sight here and I never get use to them.

  17. Our friends had a Bobcat at their place farther up north from us - it was going after their chickens, and then the goats too! I think you need a license to shoot them, even if they are harming your critters! They are beautiful animals, though!
